Mānuka honey: How to get the most out of this holy grail skincare ingredient

Mānuka honey: How to get the most out of this holy grail skincare ingredient

Mānuka honey is one of those ingredients that is often overlooked and underestimated, but is starting to gain popularity in the skincare industry. It is most well-known for its wound-healing abilities, making it an excellent ingredient for anyone struggling with blemish-prone or easily-irritated skin types. With its ability to fit into any routine and its compatibility with other actives, it packs a punch when it comes to results.

This golden elixir is brimming with enzymes, vitamins, antimicrobial compounds, and a combination of antioxidants not found in other kinds of honey. Suitable for all skin types, mānuka honey optimizes hydration, clears breakouts, softens rough texture, reduces the appearance of redness and supports the skin’s own healing process. You can keep it simple and use mānuka honey on its own as a face mask, or use mānuka honey infused products as part of your daily skincare routine.

However, not all mānuka honey is created equal. Some varieties of mānuka honey will be stronger than others, and if you want to tackle breakouts you need to be using an appropriately rated honey. There are many different rating systems that determine the medicinal strength of mānuka honey, but the most common ones you will see are UMF and MGO. A UMF grading test determines the amount of naturally occurring compounds within the honey and specifically measures Leptosperin, MGO, DHA and HMF. Whereas a MGO rating only indicates the content of methylglyoxal (MGO). The higher the level of MGO within your honey, the higher the performance. To see the best results for textured skin, breakouts, or post-acne marks, look for products that contain at least 500+ MGO or UMF 15+ mānuka honey.

When introducing mānuka honey into your skincare routine, it's important to make sure you are buying the real thing. To avoid fake mānuka honey, source honey that is actually harvested in New Zealand and has been independently tested with results prominently displayed on the label or company's website.

At Apo.Ge, we offer a range of skincare products infused with high-quality mānuka honey sourced from the North Island of New Zealand. Our 3-step routine makes it easy to incorporate this powerful ingredient into your routine and experience the benefits for yourself.
